family portraits in the snow with Laura Hollander Photography
Is there anything better than warm light on a cold winter day? I’ve been bothering my friend and fellow photographer, Tiffany, to PLEASE let me take some family portraits of her crew since having her baby… last July. She told me she wanted winter family portraits so we’ve been keeping our eyes on the sky and praying for sun and above freezing temperatures. Yesterday was the day! We actually had a golden hour in the winter here in Michigan. Golden winter light is a rarity in southwestern Michigan so we hopped in our cars and met at Riverside Park in Battle Creek for some winter family photos. It was CHILLY. There was a lot of cuddling and snuggling and thinking of warm thoughts.
If you are thinking about booking some winter snow family portraits, book ahead and be ready! The snow and sun come and go and I usually schedule winter sessions for the first weekend after a nice snowfall! 🙂
Grab some hot cocoa and enjoy these lovely chilly family portraits!
My best winter session tips are to dress for the weather! Embrace wearing your jacket, boots, hats and gloves if needed. There is nothing worse than trying to coax a cold child into playing or smiling or being happy! Layer your kiddos up, (a base layer under dresses and pants that won’t be seen anyways!) and then have fun being outdoors in the winter!
