Happy New Year, all! I have been busy (and staying warm) in my home studio photographing newborns and babies this past month! I am blown away by the number of newborn inquiries I’ve been getting- winter is a great time to have a baby! (I had TWO!) I love shooting studio newborn sessions in my home studio in Battle Creek, but I equally love lifestyle sessions in your home! SO- keep bringing me your babies!
A couple of tips for a successful newborn session like the one I’m going to share with you today are as follows:
- Try to keep your babe awake for some time before you arrive to your session! Giving your babe a bath can be a sure way to help them have some awake time before the session, as well as calm them into a nice sleep for their photos!
- I always ask clients to give their baby a full feeding right before we start so that baby is full and satisfied!
I recently re-vamped my studio with a faux brick wall which has made an amazing backdrop for me! I love the idea of capturing lifestyle studio images. What do I mean by “lifestyle studio images”? I want to capture candid connections in a space that lends itself not only to formal studio backdrops, but also to more environmental portraits; you may see the windows in the space, the floor, plants and other homey items. If you don’t like the idea of having a lifestyle session in your own home- I hope I can create a lifestyle feel with environmental portraits in MY home studio for you!
I’m all about the momma portraits! I have had many new moms who want a portrait with their newborn, but just feel like they cannot make it happen due to wardrobe, lack of time the day of the shoot, tiredness etc. MOM- you just had a baby so give yourself some grace! Please, get in the frame! Even though you are tired and may not feel your best, you will have NO regrets when you see the portraits of you snuggling your sweet babe! Take it from me- babies don’t keep! 🙂 Here are few of my favorites of Mary snuggling her sweet baby girl!
