It’s barely still Sunday- but here’s my #seniorsunday post! I’m beyond excited to share some of my favorite images from Alyssa’s senior session in Battle Creek! Alyssa is going to be a senior this fall at Lakeview High School. I was fortunate to spend an evening with her and her mom (who graciously assisted me) and I also had Lacey from Lacey Dippold Photography based in Cheyenne, Wyoming tag along to capture some behind the scenes photos! This was my first time having a pro take some BTS images for me and I just think they are so so fun! (Lacey found me on the internet– I LOVE technology sometimes! It can make our world so much smaller! She asked me to take some behind the scenes photos for a shoot that she was planning in Battle Creek. I will be posting those images soon! I had Alyssa’s session in the books a few days after her shoot so she tagged along with me. I’m becoming a huge fan of working with other creatives!)
It is HARD to get in front of the camera and have someone photograph you while you work. But I was cracking up because Lacey told me to watch my “ugly shooting face”! Here’s a couple of me… the girl behind the lens…with a camera smashed against my eye and a squint…rocking a top-knot bun, always trying to do alllll the things. I may look like a hot mess, but I must say- I’m doing a few things right! LOL
Alyssa is my first senior rep for the class of 2019. This means that she will be earning free products from her session when she refers her friends to me for their senior portraits!
Alyssa really wanted a beach-y, outdoor backdrop so we went to Goguac Lake and captured some gorgeous natural lake images. I love the look of the wooded areas and the super natural lake line that you get at this location. It’s totally different in comparison with a state park/ Lake Michigan beach. Alyssa also wanted to have some fun sunset photos taken with her Grandpa’s car. He waxed it up so much I was afraid she might slip off. I used some off-camera lighting to capture some fashion-esque (you can add “esque” to almost any word ;)) images. I love the contrast and drama!
A big thank you to my make-up artist, Bailey, (find her on Instagram @miss_baileyraeee) for setting up in my studio for Alyssa’s gorgeous natural look.
During the shoot & the final image:I’m a bit of a perfectionist. I will absolutely fix your hair and my angle and bounce light up on you to photograph you in the best, most flattering, way. I will jump in a lake or river or lay down if I have to. (true story) I totally believe in getting it right the first time: in the camera. I expose my images for my editing techniques in post processing and RARELY crop any images. I was taught to compose within the viewfinder and that’s what works for me! This way you’re not losing any quality in your images as well ;).Do you want creative, modern senior portraits!? Your senior session should be about YOU. Who are you now, and what are you planning to do in the next 2 years? Where will you go, who will you meet, what will you become? This is such an exciting time in your life- capture it! Are you ready to book your senior session!?
