Location tips for Stunning Fall Senior Portraits: Montgomery, Texas Photographer

Laura Hollander Photography offers creative fall senior portraits in Montgomery, Conroe, Willis, Magnolia and The Woodlands.

Fall senior portraits are so dreamy in Montgomery, TX. The weather is finally cooling down enough to be comfortable outdoors; the golden hour light continues to be my favorite. I have so many favorites from this Montgomery senior session! Let’s talk about some location scouting tips for senior portraits!

We met at a park in Conroe, TX which is such a fun location for photos. I know a lot of photographers these days mention shooting at up to 5 locations in one session! I would rather use all of that driving time to find one perfect location with multiple backgrounds than drive all over town! If the light is good, and there is good texture at the location, there’s really no reason to have to travel to 5 locations. Look for areas that have multiple backgrounds and colors. Make sure to style each spot with your outfit choices to make it come alive.

This park has some wooded areas and paths. I’m obsessed with palmettos which are native palm plants that grow in the forests around here. They feel like a little pop of tropical in the middle of the forest which just feels like North Houston :). We took some photos on a sandy trail, then made our way to the river bed. Thankfully, the water was low at the time of Layla’s session and we were able to explore, take photos on the sandy river bank and even dip our toes in!

Time for another spot at the park! We came up from the river and sun was shining through the trees. I had her do some sitting poses in the grass. If you saw a pull back from this spot it doesn’t look like anything special. But with my photographer’s eye I decided to make that background bokeh look alive with a long lens and chose to shoot at an up-angle. I think she looks stunning in this spot! That’s 3-4 different looks all without having to drive anywhere else!

After we finished up at the park, I asked Layla to follow me to a spot that I’ve been eyeing for over a year. I knew it was on her way back home and so it was perfect for quick photo op. I think we were there for around 5 minutes. The sun had already set and I knew the sky would look amazing with her pink dress. The sunset and wildflowers and concrete all just look so unique together. I love how they came out!

If you’re still looking for creative senior portraits- I photograph seniors from all over the North Houston area including Montgomery, Conroe, Magnolia, Willis and The Woodlands. Be sure to check me out!
